Swedish distributor Klubb Super 8 has declared 2025 “The Year of Christina Lindberg,” announcing a slate of premium Blu-ray releases celebrating the cult actor during this year’s Cannes Film Festival.
The initiative kicks off with Thursday’s release of a double-disc edition of “Thriller – A Cruel Picture” (1973), the groundbreaking revenge film famously cited by Quentin Tarantino as inspiration for Darryl Hannah’s character in “Kill Bill.”
“Of all the revenge movies I’ve ever seen, that is definitely the roughest. There’s never been anything as tough as that movie,” Tarantino has said of the exploitation classic.
The Scandinavian Deluxe Edition, produced in partnership with boutique label Vinegar Syndrome, arrives packed with bonus features including behind-the-scenes documentaries, galleries, trailers, and unique curiosities like Swedish rock videos featuring Lindberg in her iconic eyepatch costume.
In a collector-pleasing touch, the first 500 copies include a limited edition slipcover by British illustrator Graham Humphreys, with select copies signed by Lindberg herself.
The Klubb Super 8 campaign continues in July with “Anita – Swedish Nymphet” (1973), which pairs Lindberg with a young Stellan Skarsgård. The restoration by the Swedish Film Institute will include the newly rediscovered “hot” French edit and marks Klubb Super 8’s debut as a Vinegar Syndrome partner label.
Also slated is “Christina Lindberg – The Original Eyepatch Wearing Butt Kicking Movie Babe,” a director’s cut of the acclaimed documentary by Jane Magnusson and Ika Johannesson, with additional Lindberg titles planned for late 2025.
Klubb Super 8, along with streaming partner Cultpix, has built a reputation for preserving and celebrating Sweden’s most outrageous exploitation cinema. Representatives are at Cannes to discuss these and other upcoming projects.
