Gregoire Melin‘s Kinology has boarded sales for “Trompe-la-Mort,” a WWI thriller set during the early days of the Battle of Verdun, which marks the debut feature from Rocco Labbé. Metropolitan FilmExport will be distributing the survival thriller in France, while Kinology will unveil an exclusive promo at their Cannes offices to kick off sales.
Currently in post-production, “Trompe-la-Mort” is produced by Alexis Perrin for Rumble Fish, whose credits include “Vesper,” with Victor Hadida’s Davis Films (“Return to Silent Hill”), EV.L Prod, and Rocco Labbé’s Les Films D’Amity.
“Trompe-la-Mort” stars César award-winner Sami Bouajila (“Days of Glory”), Finnegan Oldfield (“Infested,” “Alpha”), and Molière award-winner Olivier Martin-Salvan. A bold reimagining of the war genre, “Trompe-la-Mort” is weaves thriller and action-adventure.
Written by Labbé and Clément Tuffreau, the story centers on three French “camoufleurs,” civilian artists turned battlefield illusionists, who find themselves trapped behind enemy lines. Their only chance at survival lies in outsmarting a devastating new enemy: the German flamethrower incinerating
everything in its path.
The top-tier key crew includes production designer Hugues Tissandier, cinematographer Colin Wandersman costume designer Corinne Bruand, all veterans of Luc Besson’s films. “Trompe-la-Mort” is scored by Robin Coudert (“Revenge”), while the sound department is led by Vincent Arnardi (“A Very Long Engagement”). Principal photography on the film wrapped in late March on the estate of animal wrangler Muriel Bec’s ‘Terre Animale.’
“Trompe-La-Mort” was produced in association with SOFICA Cineaxe 7 and Entourage, and also received the support from the CNC Genre Films Fund and the Region Sud (PACA). It’s been pre-bought by CINE+OCS.
