Steve Carell and John Krasinski are helping to usher in the next era of “The Office.”
In a recent sit down with People, Domhnall Gleeson, who is set to star in the new “Office” spinoff series, “The Paper,” said he was encouraged by both Carell and Krasinski to join the show.
“[Krasinski] was wonderful. I mean, his big advice that he gave me was to do it,” Gleeson said. “And the same with Steve Carell, another just wonderful actor who I’d worked with before. And their advice was, if it’s [‘The Office’ creator] Greg Daniels, you should do it because getting to work with him is a treat that not many people get to have.”
The official logline for “The Paper” reads, “The documentary crew that immortalized Dunder Mifflin’s Scranton branch is in search of a new subject when they discover a historic Midwestern newspaper and the publisher trying to revive it.”
Along with Gleeson, the show stars Sabrina Impacciatore, Chelsea Frei, Melvin Gregg, Gbemisola Ikumelo, Alex Edelman, Ramona Young and Tim Key. Oscar Nuñez also stars, reprising his role of Oscar Martinez from the original series.
Gleeson added that he may have found his way to “The Paper” on his own accord, but the support from Carell and Krasinski was a good push on the journey to the Peacock comedy.
“I mean, I like to think I would’ve got there on my own anyway,” Gleeson said, “but certainly if [John] and Steve had been like, ‘Don’t do it, it’s a nightmare,’ I would’ve hightailed it, but they could not have been more positive about it, and I’m delighted I listened to them.”
