‘Alien: Earth’ Trailer: Xenomorphs Terrorize Synthetic Soldiers in Prequel Series to Original ‘Alien’ Movie

FX is piloting “Alien” a little closer to home. The network has released the first full trailer for “Alien: Earth,” an eight-episode series serving as a prequel to Ridley Scott’s “Alien.” The show stars Sydney Chandler as Wendy, Alex Lawther as CJ, Timothy Olyphant as Kirsh and Adarsh Gourav as Slightly.

“I play one of the leading characters,” Gourav told Variety in October. “It’s set in the future, and it’s very exciting for me, because I got to be part of like a sci-fi horror, psychological thriller show. These elements are basically things that excite me the most as an actor…My knowledge about sci-fi is very limited, but psychological thriller and horror is my go-to genre to watch.”

Other cast members include Essie Davis as Dame Silvia, Kit Young as Toodles, and Samuel Blenkin as Boy Kavalier, with “Fargo” creator Noah Hawley serving as showrunner.

The official series logline reads: “When the mysterious deep space research vessel USCSS Maginot crash-lands on Earth, ‘Wendy’ (Sydney Chandler) and a ragtag group of tactical soldiers make a fateful discovery that puts them face-to-face with the planet’s greatest threat. In the year 2120, the Earth is governed by five corporations: Prodigy, Weyland-Yutani, Lynch, Dynamic and Threshold. In this Corporate Era, cyborgs (humans with both biological and artificial parts) and synthetics (humanoid robots with artificial intelligence) exist alongside humans. But the game is changed when the wunderkind Founder and CEO of Prodigy Corporation unlocks a new technological advancement: hybrids (humanoid robots infused with human consciousness). The first hybrid prototype named Wendy marks a new dawn in the race for immortality. After Weyland-Yutani’s spaceship collides into Prodigy City, Wendy and the other hybrids encounter mysterious life forms more terrifying than anyone could have ever imagined.”

Though the world of “Alien” is nine films strong with the release of Fede Alvarez’s “Alien: Romulus” last summer, “Alien: Earth” marks the first time Scott’s long-running sci-fi franchise is sojourning to the small screen. The first season lands in summer of 2025, though FX boss John Landgraf told Variety he’s hopeful the series will return for a second installment.

“We’re pretty bullish on ‘Alien: Earth’ and we’ve told him that assuming, as we hope, “Alien: Earth” is a returning television series,” he said. “We want him to focus on at least writing two seasons of it.”
