VFX house DNEG has hired David Conley as executive producer. Conley is perhaps best known for his work as executive producer at Weta FX, where he managed productions including “Avatar: The Way of Water,” “Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes,” and most recently, “Alien: Romulus.”

With over two decades of experience, Conley will help guide the development and growth of DNEG’s visual effects team. Working closely with DNEG co-presidents of VFX, Rohan Desai and Merzin Tavaria, Conley’s responsibilities will include creative development, production oversight, partnership management, strategic guidance, and technical expertise and advice for all aspects of DNEG VFX production.

Prior to joining DNEG, Conley was president of its VFX brand MPC, whose work includes VFX Oscar winner “The Jungle Book,” “The Lion King” and its prequel “Mufasa: The Lion King.”

As part of DNEG’s senior creative leadership team, Conley will provide a bridge between the company’s clients, partners and DNEG’s industry-leading creative teams, guiding projects through the digital production process, improving and advancing the company’s creative and technology offerings, and recommending creative solutions to filmmaking challenges.

Conley said, “I’m excited to join an innovative and dynamic team dedicated to creative excellence and fostering technical innovation. DNEG’s commitment to ongoing success, growth, and technological advancement is inspirational, and I look forward to contributing to pushing boundaries at the intersection of content creation and technology.”

DNEG group founder and global CEO Namit Malhotra said: “David’s passion for filmmaking and his experience and reputation as a world-class VFX leader position him perfectly for his new role with us here at DNEG. Working at the intersection of creativity and technology, David has played a key role in the development and production of some of the biggest theatrical releases of modern times, and his expertise in the delivery of experiences beyond traditional screen formats aligns perfectly with the work we are doing to enhance and expand the ways in which audiences can interact and engage with their favourite characters and worlds. I look forward to David working closely with both our in-house teams and with our clients to bolster our creative offering, unlock new efficiencies, and deploy new technologies as we continue to enhance and diversify our operations.”
