‘Super Mario Galaxy Movie’ Casts Donald Glover as Yoshi

“The Super Mario Galaxy Movie” has added more names to its star-studded video game cast, including Donald Glover as the green dinosaur Yoshi.

The newly announced cast members also include Luis Guzman as Wart and Issa Rae as Honey Queen. Illumination CEO and producer Chris Meledandri made the announcement in a Nintendo Direct livestream on Monday, which also revealed the new trailer for the animated sequel.

Chris Pratt returns to voice Mario, who’s heading to space in the sequel to 2023’s “The Super Mario Bros. Movie.” Returning cast members include Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad and Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek. The sequel will also introduce Benny Safdie as Bowser Jr. and Brie Larson as Princess Rosalina, who was introduced in the 2007 video game “Super Mario Galaxy.”

After defeating Bowser in the original movie, Mario, Luigi and Peach are back for another adventure and must face off against the evil Koopa King and his son. They’re also transported to outer space and explore various planets, like a fiery volcano world, an underwater planet and a techno-land with neon, gravity-defying obstacles. The Mushroom Kingdom heroes team up with Rosalina and Yoshi, the egg-laying dinosaur.
