As for “Sinners” itself, Variety film critic Owen Gleiberman called “Sinners,” a “lavishly serious popcorn movie,” in his review. “It’s vibrant and richly acted, and also a wild throat-ripping blowout. But though overloaded at times, it’s the rare mainstream horror film that’s about something weighty and soulful: the wages of sin in Black America,” writes Gleiberman.
Directed by Ryan Coogler, “Sinners” is set in 1932 and follows Smoke and Stack (both Michael B. Jordan), twin brothers who return back to their hometown in the Mississippi Delta after years away. While they find a promising future with old friends and a new business, the twins discover something dark and sinister just beneath the surface.
The horror movie also stars Hailee Steinfeld, Miles Caton, Jack O’Connell, Wunmi Mosaku, Jayme Lawson, Omar Miller, Delroy Lindo and others.
