Despite a famously strict dress code, with a controversial change to its rules this year banning cleavage and “excessively voluminous” clothing, stars are still managing to bring their personal style to Cannes.

Many of this year’s best looks have been away from the Palais red carpet. Case in point: Robert Pattinson who arrived at a photocall for his psychological drama “Die, My Love” in an effortlessly chic layered ensemble of trousers, a lemon yellow tee, light blue button down and chocolate brown suede jacket.

The star of the outfit, though, were his $60 Converse Chuck Taylor All Stars. Sneakers may be are strictly prohibited on the carpet, but Chuck Taylors are clearly more than welcome elsewhere on the Croisette.

Pattinson topped off his nostalgic Y2K look with wraparound sunglasses from the IYKYK London label Port Tanger, which are currently 50% off on SSENSE.

Lynn Ramsay’s film, starring Pattinson and Jennifer Lawrence, is based on author Ariana Harwicz’s 2017 novel of the same name, which centers on a new mother who enters psychosis after developing pospartum depression. Ramsay’s adaptation of “Die, My Love” is set in rural America and revolves around Lawrence’s character, a woman who has just had a baby and is engulfed by love and madness, to which her husband (Pattinson) appears oblivious.

After receiving a four-minute standing ovation at its world premiere this week, Mubi acquired the rights to the film, marking the first major the first major sale at this year’s Cannes.
