Range Media Partners and Google’s production initiative, 100 Zeros, is adding a range of microdramas to its roster. This includes forthcoming shows in development from “The Bachelor” creator Mike Fleiss, “American Idol” creator Simon Fuller and “Charlie’s Angels” director McG. The initiative comes as demand for vertical video continues to expand.
To support these projects, 100 Zeros has built an infrastructure spanning financing, production, distribution and monetization across a broad spectrum of vertical videos. And while the soapy ethos of microdramas has driven the format’s popularity, 100 Zeros is developing a range of shows across genres and formats, including scripted, non-scripted, serialized and bingeable content. Dozens of projects are currently in development.
From Fleiss, “Dateable,” the world’s first self-shot reality romance micro-drama, is a part of the initial slate. The show will feature singles who film their own journeys to love, capturing every part of the experience. McG, who also executive produced “The “O.C.,” will bring the exclusive, scandalous world of Orange County to the vertical world with “Newport Beach,” while Fuller is creating a show focused on youth culture and breakout talent stories.
In partnership with Artists for Artists, Kenan Thompson and John Ryan Jr.’s production studio, a 90s-inspired kidnapping microdrama with a comedic edge is also in development.
When completed, 100 Zeros’ microdrama slate will be watchable across a number of platforms. A first look window will be available on the Google TV mobile app on Android phones, which recently launched a dedicated microdrama offering in the U.S..
On behalf of Range, Rachel Douglas, Brian Kavanaugh-Jones and Mark Herwick are overseeing the initiative, with creative executives Casey Durant and Penny Lin focused on 100 Zeros projects.
