Judith Light has joined the cast of “Presumed Innocent” Season 2 at Apple TV, Variety has learned exclusively.
Light will appear alongside previously announced season lead Rachel Brosnahan as well as cast members Matthew Rhys, Courtney B. Vance, Fiona Shaw, Jack Reynor, John Magaro, Michael Hsu Rosen Lesley-Ann Brandt and Ji-young Yoo. Exact character details for Light are being kept under wraps.
As previously announced, Season 2 of “Presumed Innocent” is based on the book “Dissection of a Murder” by Jo Murray. The book is due to be published in May, thus an exact logline for the show has yet to be released. But the description of the novel states, “When Leila Reynolds (Brosnahan) is handed her first murder case, she’s shocked at how high-profile it is: the murder of a well-respected, well-known judge. This shouldn’t be the kind of case she’s leading; it’s way beyond her expertise. But the defendant, Jack Millman, is clear. He wants her, and only her.”
Light is one of the most acclaimed actresses of her generation. She is a five-time Emmy nominee, winning the award for outstanding guest actress in a comedy in 2023 for “Poker Face.” She was nominated twice for her work on Amazon’s “Transparent” and also for her roles in “Ugly Betty” and “The Assassination Of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story.” Other TV credits include “All’s Fair,” “Julia,” “The Politician,” and “Law & Order: SVU.” Light is a highly accomplished stage actress to boot, having received back to back Tony Awards in 2012 and 2013 for “Other Desert Cities” and “The Assembled Parties.”
She is repped by Gersh, Brillstein, and PMK Entertainment.
David E. Kelley developed “Presumed Innocent” for television and serves as executive producer and showrunner under his David E. Kelley Productions (DEKP) banner. J.J. Jake Gyllenhaal, who starred in Season 1, will executive produce via Nine Stories. Dee Johnson and Dustin Thomason also serves as executive producer along with Brosnahan. Scott Turow, the author of “Presumed Innocent,” is a co-executive producer, as is Murray. Warner Bros. Television is the studio.
