West End “Romeo & Juliet” star Francesca Amewudah-Rivers, Daisy Bevan (“Too Much”) and Amy Spalding (BBC’s “I Kissed a Girl”) will lead “Notice Me,” a new short film produced by Lena Dunham.

“Notice Me” is “a messy heartfelt romantic comedy about queer longing and the ridiculous lengths lesbians go to for connection and sexy sapphic neighbors,” according to its plot description. “Em and AJ, newly neighbors and soon to be more than neighbors, find their worlds colliding in London’s East End.”

The short is directed by rising Australian helmer Amy Leonard, who worked alongside Dunham on her upcoming Netflix series “Too Much,” from the debut script by Jody Wiltshire. Casting was led by Sacha Garrett (“Too Much,” “Baby Reindeer,” “Conclave”) and the rest of the ensemble includes Chiyo Kenn Gomes, Elliot Douglas, Francis Ezekiel and Paul Longley.

Alongside Dunham for her Good Thing Going Productions, “Notice Me” is produced by Emily Sky Hickin for Pucci Productions (“Bearcave”) with Daisy Ifama, whose Netflix documentary “Twinkleberry” won best doc short at the Mansfield Film Festival, on board as an executive producer.

“This is my absolute dream project,” Leonard said in a statement. “In a time of such uncertainty for LGBTQA+ people in the U.K. right now, I am completely humbled to be able to create something that’s sole purpose is championing queer joy.”

Added Dunham: “I am so thrilled and honored to be a part of it.”

Filming recently wrapped on “Notice Me” and a release is being planned for later this year.
