‘Final Destination: Bloodlines’ Claims Top Spot at U.K. and Ireland Box Office as Tom Cruise’s ‘Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning’ Looms

Warner Bros. claimed the No. 1 position at the U.K. and Ireland box office this weekend with “Final Destination: Bloodlines,” which opened to a powerful £4 million ($5.3 million), according to Comscore.

In its third week, Disney’s Marvel movie “Thunderbolts*” dropped to second but still posted a strong $1.6 million, bringing its running total $18.5 million. Warner Bros.’ “Sinners” followed in third, earning £718,770 $961,049 across its fifth weekend. The film has now reached $19.2 million.

Still a fixture in the top five after seven weeks, “A Minecraft Movie” added $630,986 to bring its cumulative total to $74.1 million. Altitude’s environmental documentary “Ocean With David Attenborough” held fifth place with $285,429 and is now at $1.4 million after two weeks.

New entry “Hurry Up Tomorrow,” released by Lionsgate U.K., debuted in sixth place with $254,125. Warner Bros.’ “The Accountant 2” continued in seventh, adding $149,259 in its fourth weekend for a total of $3.4 million.

Universal’s thriller “Hallow Road” opened in eighth with $109,596, while Trafalgar Releasing’s event film “ATEEZ World Tour [Towards the Light: Will to Power] in Cinemas” earned $80,004, landing in ninth.

Sony’s “Until Dawn” rounded out the top ten with $79,230 in its fourth weekend, bringing its total to £2.2 million.

A diverse range of titles hits U.K. and Ireland cinemas this week, with a mix of action tentpoles, global arthouse, and classical arts programming offering something for every audience.

Tuesday, May 20, sees “Exhibition on Screen: Michelangelo – Love & Death,” presented by Seventh Art Productions. This latest entry in the art documentary series explores the life and legacy of Michelangelo through expert interviews, on-location footage, and a close look at his masterworks. Also returning to screens is Sony Pictures’ re-release of the genre-defining British horror film “28 Days Later,” giving audiences a chance to revisit Danny Boyle’s haunting vision of societal collapse.

Wednesday, May 21, marks the arrival of one of the year’s biggest titles: “Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning,” from Paramount. Opening in over 300 locations, with Tom Cruise back as Ethan Hunt, the film is poised to dominate the box office heading into the bank holiday frame. Also out midweek is Disney’s reboot of “Lilo & Stitch.”

On Thursday, May 22, Trafalgar Releasing brings “Ballet to Broadway: Wheeldon Works – ROH, London 2025” to cinemas, spotlighting the Royal Ballet’s tribute to choreographer Christopher Wheeldon. Also screening is “The Sleeping Beauty – Paris Opera 2025,” presented by Pathé Live, showcasing one of the most celebrated productions of Tchaikovsky’s ballet by the Paris Opera Ballet.

Friday, May 23, will see several new features. Modern Films releases “When the Light Breaks,” a meditative Icelandic drama directed by Rúnar Rúnarsson and starring Elín Hall.

Universal Pictures rolls out Wes Anderson’s latest, “The Phoenician Scheme,” while Day For Night releases Cannes title “Mongrel,” a drama from co-directors Chiang Wei Liang and You Qiao Yin. Also opening is “Burden of Dreams,” the landmark 1982 documentary from Les Blank and Maureen Gosling chronicling Werner Herzog’s notorious Amazon shoot for “Fitzcarraldo,” distributed by Violet Pictures.

From Bollywood comes Zee Studios International’s horror-comedy “Kapkapiii,” a remake of Malayalam-language hit “Romancham,” and Yash Raj Films’ comedy “Bhool Chuk Maaf.”
