Box Office: ‘Final Destination Bloodlines’ Makes $5.5 Million in Previews

Horror’s most ingenious death traps have returned to the big screen as “Final Destination Bloodlines” opens in theaters this weekend.

The R-rated Warner Bros. and New Line horror has made $5.5 million in Thursday previews at the box office. The film is expected to make between $35 million to $45 million in its debut, which would be the franchise’s highest opening weekend ever. It’s on track to add $35 million internationally for a global start of $70 million to $80 million. Costing roughly $50 million to produce, the film should be another bloody good return for Warner Bros. after it had huge success with “Sinners” and “A Minecraft Movie” last month.

“The Final Destination,” the fourth entry released in 2009, currently holds the franchise’s record for highest opening with $28.3 million, followed by “Final Destination 3” with $19.1 million and “Final Destination 5” with $18.4 million.

“Bloodlines,” the sixth “Final Destination” entry, should beat Marvel’s “Thunderbolts,” which has been the box office champ for the last two weeks. The MCU film is projected to add $15 million to $18 million in its third week. So far, it’s grossed $127.7 million domestically and $271 million globally against a production budget of $180 million.

The first “Final Destination” movie in 14 years, “Bloodlines” follows a college student whose family is getting picked off one by one — in horrifically clever ways, of course — after her grandmother escaped death years ago. The cast includes Kaitlyn Santa Juana, Teo Briones, Richard Harmon, Owen Patrick Joyner, Rya Kihlstedt. Tony Todd, Gabrielle Rose and more.

Also opening this weekend is “Hurry Up Tomorrow,” a film accompaniment to the Weeknd’s most recent album of the same name. It’s being distributed by Lionsgate and also stars Jenna Ortega and Barry Keoghan. The psychological thriller is on track to make $5 million to $7 million in its launch.
