Beauty Brand E.l.f Sets Roast-Style Comedy Special ‘Sunhinged,’ Featuring Meghan Trainor and ‘RuPaul’s Drag Race’ Star Heidi N’ Closet (EXCLUSIVE)

E.l.f Skin, the drugstore beauty brand’s clean skincare offshoot, is getting into the original content game with “Sunhinged,” a comedy special skewering one unlikely target: the sun.

Premiering June 14 on YouTube, the e.l.f. Made original production takes the form of a roast, with comedian Marie Faustin serving as host. The lineup includes pop singer Meghan Trainor, comedian Jon Rudnitsky, “RuPaul’s Drag Race” star Heidi N’ Closet, and Andrea Jin. The special made its trailer debut at the 2025 Tribeca Festival last week.

“Sunhinged” is at the center of a new campaign aimed at addressing sunscreen habits — or lack thereof — among Gen Z consumers. According to data cited by e.l.f., 64% of Gen Zers frequently forget to apply SPF, while only 34% cite skin cancer prevention as a motivating factor. The special aims to bring humor and visibility to what the brand sees as a major behavioral gap in the skincare routine of its core demographic.

“Gen Z is doing everything right in their skincare routines — except when it comes to SPF,” Kory Marchisotto, CMO at e.l.f. Beauty, said in a statement. “’Sunhinged’ lets us meet them where they are, using comedy as a tool to make the message stick.”

This project also marks the official kick-off of e.l.f. Made, the brand’s new in-house entertainment studio, produced in partnership with Above Average, the New York-based comedy production company founded by Lorne Michaels’ Broadway Video. The beauty brand has increasingly leaned into entertainment-forward campaigns as a way to deepen cultural relevance, including previous collaborations such as Jennifer Coolidge’s Super Bowl campaign in 2023, music partnerships with artists such as Vanessa Hudgens and awards show activations at the Oscars and Emmys.

The campaign also spotlights e.l.f. SKIN’s Suntouchable SPF line, which features lightweight, vegan formulas aimed at consumers seeking effective sun protection without a white cast or greasy finish.

“Never before has there been a stand-up special exclusively about SPF,” Rudnitsky says. “Are you excited? You should be. Are you confused? That also makes sense.”
