Sony Music has named Clio Massey and Matt D’Arduini as co-presidents of Arista Records, the company announced Tuesday, succeeding David Massey, who took the helm of Arista in 2018 and confirmed his retirement as the label’s president and CEO in April. The two will be based in New York and report to Sony Music Group Chairman Rob Stringer.

Arista’s roster includes Måneskin and the current solo album from its lead singer Damiano David, JP Saxe, Paul Russell, Lola Brooke, Jonah Kagen and Sunday (1994).

In sharing the news, Stringer said, “We are pleased to announce a seamless transition for Arista that was creatively reborn in 2018. Clio and Matt are dynamic and forward-thinking executives who are best placed to build on the artist development they have been involved with in the first phase of the new Arista. Their skills complement each other neatly and as a partnership will lead to an exciting future for the label.”

Clio Massey commented, “I’m thrilled and thankful for this opportunity. I look forward to continuing the work with the great artists and exceptional team at Arista, alongside Matt. We’re excited to help shape and grow our group into its next chapter.”

D’Arduini stated, “We are eager to expand on Arista’s progress and reach over the last few years, cultivating even more talent at our Company. We’re also grateful for the leadership at Sony Music who believe in this organization and will help us advance our creative core.”

Clio Massey most recently served as general manager for Work of Art Publishing and vice president of A&R at Arista. She launched Work of Art’s publishing division, in partnership with her father’s management company of the same name, and has led business operations and A&R of the company’s songwriters for the past five years. She will continue to oversee it; prior to Work of Art and Arista, she was an executive at Sony/ATV Music Publishing. D’Arduini, who has been with Arista Records since its 2018 relaunch, previously was executive VP of A&R.

Arista Records was founded by Clive Davis in 1974 and over the years has released blockbuster and/or critically lauded albums by such artists as Whitney Houston, the Kinks, Patti Smith, the Grateful Dead, Carlos Santana, Barry Manilow, Aretha Franklin, Lou Reed and many others. Davis left the company in 2000, in a battle with then-parent company BMG that saw him founding J Records; both labels were folded into Sony in 2011.
